I would like to wish you all a safe and relaxing Winter Break from Hawar International School. If you are traveling outside of Bahrain, I wish you all a happy trip. We have a three week vacation from school but I am hoping that we can do some things with our children over the vacation so that their minds are kept active and alert and they are ready for learning when they come back to school on January 5th, 2014.
Most of our Elementary School teachers will be sending home a letter outlining what they would like you, as parents, to do over the long break from school. We are not asking for a large amount of work from the students, just something to keep their minds active. I would say that the 1st-3rd graders should practice some reading, both in Arabic as well as English, and if you are reading to your child I would hope that you would read more to them over the Winter Break. I think it would also be beneficial for the younger children to keep a journal or diary and write for a few minutes each day about what they have done or want to do. The older 4th and 5th grade students should do the same things as the younger ones, just for a longer duration than the younger students.
First Semester Exams are scheduled for January 19th through January 30th. We will have lots of revision work for the children to accomplish in the two weeks they return to school from Winter Break. Please keep this in mind so that we can all plan accordingly for the exams.
As always, it is up to you as parents to do what you know is best for your children and their education. I just thought I would send you a short note to keep our children moving in the right direction.
